What’s your favorite rapid and what makes it special?
I have many favorite rapids, and I especially enjoy the ones that let me catch some serious air — like Hospital Bar on the South Fork and Tunnel Chute on the Middle Fork of the American River.

Why do you love working at Mother Lode River Center?
Rivers are a huge source of inspiration and joy for me, my family, and so many others. Guiding river trips is one way I get to share my love of rivers, and teaching aspiring guides is one of my favorite ways to connect the dots between generations.

I love working at Mother Lode because they are deeply committed to river conservation. Our Friends of the River letter-writing talks have generated thousands of letters and helped save 15 California rivers — that’s something I’m proud to support. Both Mother Lode and FOR pursue a purpose I strongly believe in.

I also enjoy how Mother Lode gives me the chance to grow beyond guiding. The ropes course, zipline, and outdoor education programs create meaningful opportunities for people to expand their comfort zones, communicate, and bond. Between Search and Rescue work and my job in IT, nothing compares to the challenge, beauty, and friendships found on a river.

What’s one of your favorite adventures?
Guiding rivers, teaching new guides, and being part of conservation efforts — these continue to be some of my most meaningful adventures.
