What’s your favorite rapid and what makes it special?
My favorite rapid is ‘Troublemaker’ on the South Fork of the American. This rapid lives up to its name every time and is never the same twice.
I fell in love with rivers in my home state of Texas while a student at Texas State University where I studied Outdoor Recreation and ultimately earned a Masters Degree in Education. Running their outdoor adventure program and serving their 39,000 students gave me the opportunity to learn the principles that guide me today.
Why do you love working for Mother Lode?
When I migrated to California after college, I first encountered CBOC, a rafting company on the South Fork of the American river in Coloma where I served as manager. This ultimately led to my involvement at the Mother Lode River Center where I also served as manager for several years before spending a decade as manager of the recreation facilities of El Dorado County’s water district. As chance would have it, I had the opportunity to return to Mother Lode as Manager in 2023 and to implement the principles that have guided me throughout my career. ‘Challenge by Choice’, ‘Forming-Storming-Norming-Performing’, ‘Breakthroughs thru Breakdowns’ : these are all concepts we make come alive at Mother Lode and which help us build teams.
Rivers provide the magical space in which to build teams, grow individuals and achieve important goals such as conserving our natural resources for the benefit of future generations. All this happens in the most important context of all- the FUN space- and we love to have fun! So please check out our programs and the special places that Mother Lode provides. We would love to share our love of rivers and the joy of encountering nature with you.
See you on the River!
