What’s your favorite rapid and what makes it special?
Dos Montañas on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica has my heart. It’s the final drop of an adrenaline-filled section that leads into a peaceful rainforest canyon.

Why do you love working at Mother Lode River Center?
I love the emphasis on outdoor recreation activism and stewardship. It feels meaningful to work for a company that teaches guests about the river as well as how to protect it.

What’s one of your favorite adventures?

My favorite adventure was paddling the the Klamath River in the previously submerged K’íka·c’é·ki Canyon. This recent and largest dam removal in history, restored free flowing conditions and fish passage after over 100 years. This narrow canyon, named in the Shasta language, is a geologic marvel of staggering volcanic rock columns, and continuous, splashy class IV whitewater. Salmon flopped beside the boat mid rapid, as they made their instinctual return to their birthplace. The feeling of wellbeing and health was significant at this moment; the newly restored river had also made its return back to its source. At first glance of the canyon, I was overwhelmed with immense gratitude for the great achievement of the dam removal, the impressive ecological recovery, and for the unique experience of being a boater on this now accessible section of river.
